Skępe attracts pilgrims. Within the walls of the Bernardine Monastery there is a Marian sanctuary. The history of this place dates back to the 15th century when the first apparitions of the Mother of God were observed. The plague in the area caused people to bring here the sick, who, according to reports, recovered. This was the reason for building the first wooden chapel. One of the healed people was the daughter of Castellan Nicholas Koscielecki. As a token of gratitude for the healing of her sick legs, she donated a wooden statue of the pregnant Mary with her arms folded in prayer, which she had brought from Poznan. The statue became famous for subsequent graces and contributed to the spreading of the cult of the Mother of God of Skępe.
