Information

The Gothic streets of the city trigger the imagination and take us back in time. Knowing that an astronomer was born in Toruń who "stopped the Sun and moved the Earth" arouses respect and encourages us to delve deeper into the history of this Hanseatic city. The Toruń History Museum allows you to travel back in time and take an extraordinary journey through the history of the city from the beginnings of settlement to modern times. You will see Toruń as a center where both Vistula and offshore trade flourished and local crafts developed. You will learn about the history of the Teutonic Order, check how you look in the costume of a knight, and as a souvenir you will have an image of one of the oldest seals of Toruń. You will learn how the Tuba Dei bell was made and see many interesting historical exhibits, such as costumes, old weapons, coins, facsimiles of documents and images of rulers. You will delve into multimedia plans of the fortifications - the Toruń fortress is a complex of objects that still impress to this day. The exhibition also presented extremely interesting testimonies of the everyday life of Toruń's inhabitants in the interwar period, as well as souvenirs from World War II. At the end, you will take a sentimental journey back to the times of the Polish People's Republic. The museum is located in the Esken House, a 14th-century building that is not only an architectural pearl, but also a witness to important events in the history of Toruń.
