Chełmża

Places
Chełmża is one of the oldest towns in Pomerania, picturesquely situated on a lake. In Copernicus's time, the town was the capital of the Chełmno diocese. In May 1504, the astronomer was probably here in the retinue of King Alexander Jagiellon. The most important monument in the town is the three-nave Gothic cathedral of the Holy Trinity, where the cathedral chapter resided, which, together with the bishop, administered the diocese. It was visited by several Polish kings and became the burial place of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Siegfried von Feuchtwagen, and the mystic and hermit Juta of Chełmża. The Church of St. Nicholas, built in the Gothic style, was the parish church of Chełmża in the Middle Ages.
